Our Green Streets North team met in mid November and mid January to pick up waste around the streets of inner Alberta in North Portland.

Dumping the litter we collected into a trash can created so much positive energy it was blinding.[/caption]

Green Streets is a City of Portland program that Surfrider Portland takes part in. Volunteer groups clean up trash from city streets and bioswales, which are gardens along streets that are built to filter runoff and recharge local aquifers.

The crew spent two hours walking around, laughing and enjoying the cold winter air. They also picked up a lot of litter - 60 gallons worth each month... enough to fill your household roll cart! There were lots of cigarette butts, disposable packaging, and a couple of interesting other finds...

Sharp eyes spotted an Iphone 5 just off the sidewalk. We knocked on door of the adjacent home, and they were very relieved to have their phone returned. Pretty wild!

We also found an awesome toy stegosaurus! A little one coming our way soon could be pretty psyched with this find (after some serious scrubbing of course)!

The crew headed back to Gregg and Michelle’s house, and feasted on cookies and hot cocoa. The perfect way to end a cold, fun night!

Join us this month! We have groups working on the 3rd and 4th Tuesdays of each month, with the crew working on the 3rd Tuesday in North Portland, and the 4th working in SE Portland. Email our volunteer coordinator at volunteercoordinator@surfriderportland.org to find out more!

Anybody lose their Stegosaurus?
Solid crew!![/caption]
