Since 2014, we've been hosting annual stewardship events (Action Days) at Oswald West State Park. This year, due to the pandemic, we had to cancel our Spring Action Day but for the fall, we got creative so we can still show Os West some love!
Introducing....Oswald West Action Week in partnership with Friends of Cape Falcon Marine Reserve and Trailkeepers of Oregon! From October 10-17, sign up for one or more stewardship activities that can be done as a household or with physical distancing. All volunteers that report their activities will be entered into a prize raffle!
Why is it so important to take care of Oswald West State Park? Oswald West State Park welcomes more than 1.2 million visitors every year. This year, the impacts to the Park have been unprecedented due to budget cuts to Oregon State Parks and a higher-than-normal number of visitors. This Park is also very special because it is adjacent to Cape Falcon Marine Reserve, 12 square miles of diverse ocean habitat that is protected from development and take of living resources.
How can you get involved? Sign up for a stewardship project! Check out the project descriptions below and click on the link of a stewardship project to sign up. If you are feeling sick or are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, please stay home and attend another cleanup when it is safe to do so. The wearing of masks is a requirement for all attendees. Note, physical distancing is not possible on the narrow trails at Oswald West.
Report your results and be entered to win raffle prizes! Report results via email and/or social media (instructions will be in your confirmation email after registering).
- Beach and Litter Pickup: Register for a litter pick up in Oswald West State Park on your own, with your household, or your quaran-team! This activity can occur on your own time at any point during the Action Week. Register here.
- Trail Maintenance: Join Trailkeepers of Oregon on Friday, October 16th at 9 am to support much needed trail maintenance in the park. Tools will be provided. Volunteers must wear a mask, long pants, and closed toed shoes. Register here.
- Trail Decommissioning - FULL: Did you know walking on unofficial trails can cause erosion, damage cultural sites, and disturb wildlife? Help us block those trails by moving driftwood and other debris to block the paths. Masks and closed toed shoes required. Limited to one household. Date and time are flexible and will be chosen with the project leader after registering.
- Beach Access Trail Improvement: Help make the beach more accessible by moving rocks off of the main beach access at Short Sands! This project is great for families with young children. Limited to one household or quaran-team. This activity can occur on your own time at any point during the Action Week. Register here.
